Tell us your story. Why did you get started with Lifestyle with Jess?
Lifestyle with Jess began 6 years ago... without me even knowing it.
Growing up, I had a fast metabolism and I was extremely skinny... I ate everything but never gained any weight. Some would argue that this is a "good" problem to have, but I assure you it's not as fun as it sounds.I really struggled with this. I had zero clue about proper nutrition and didn't realize how my diet was affecting my overall health. "Skinny" doesn't always mean "healthy". For years, I had constant low energy and felt very weak most of the day. In college, my grandmother passed away from diabetes. When someone you love dearly passes away from a health related issue (mostly ones that are preventable and can be treated) you realize quickly that you need to get your crap together - because I was headed down a very similar path.
When it came to eating the right foods and exercising, I didn’t have a clue (a diet is a diet is a diet, right?! - but I wanted to learn! I was so tired of feeling tired. I knew I wasn’t fueling my body the right way and I knew I needed to make a permanent change. So I did. I began implementing everything I learned about nutrition and I began seeing my body change (such an amazing feeling!!) Throughout this process however, I experienced many extremes. From dieting hard to working out too hard, I learned so many things not to do. Things that are drilled into our heads that mentally and physically exhaust us to the point of giving up. I navigated my way through and found a happy medium of self-love, respect and true balance. Living a healthy lifestyle is just as mental as it is physical. And to reach a true balance, you need to nourish both. With my new knowledge, personal experience and desire to teach and motivate... I knew I had to pursue a career that did just that.
The fitness industry is filled with a lot of "quick fixes", negativity and a notion of what someone "should" look like. Through out my journey I experienced this first hand. I knew deep in my heart that I needed to change that. I teach women to love the process and love their body as it transforms. They enjoy what they eat, enjoy moving their body, and enjoy the way of life they didn't think was possible. No extreme diets. No extreme workout plans. I work with women through online programs and on a 1:1 bases to develop a healthy relationship with food. My workouts are only 30 minutes and can be done anywhere. I simplified the process that the industry has made into a big ball of confusion.
Lifestyle with Jess promotes realistic healthy lifestyles, not end goals or a short-term fixes. My clients learn how to maintain their progress- with no yo-yo dieting or working out until you can’t move. I love what I do and I would have it any other way.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone who wants to get motivated?
Remember that you determine your reality. All you have to do is find your WHY. When I have people inquire about my services I like to ask them WHY they want to change their life. I've heard, “I just want to get fit, or skinny, or in shape” . These are only surface answers, not their REAL answer. For me, my WHY hit me hard in the gut when my grandmother passed. For others, their WHY may take a little more time to uncover, but when you do you become so in tune with your true purpose that you're unstoppable. The "I want to be skinny" becomes "I want to love myself because I know I'm worthy of it". The "I just want to get in shape" becomes "I want to be the strongest version of myself mentally and physically". Your WHY keeps you going on tough days. When your reasons and your WHY have POWER, you become POWERFUL and ultimately unstoppable.
